Over the last decade, almost all industries have experienced disruption through innovation and technology. Whether it’s transport with Uber or travel with Airbnb, no business is immune, be it startup or established; all organisations are vulnerable so everyone should be disruptive ready and focus on their own growth and scalability.
What is Growth Marketing/Hacking?
Growth Marketing, also known as Growth Hacking, are not just a buzzwords, they are an integrated approach to growing your business.
Growth hacking is actually a clearly defined and simplistic concept. The term was originally coined by Sean Ellis in 2010, when he became frustrated looking to find his replacement as he was leaving a startup to pursue new ventures. He realised that what he was looking for went beyond pure marketing, those traditional skills just wouldn’t cut it - he needed “a person whose true north is growth.” Growth would need to be their one and only target so as to give it the dedicated focus it required.
The Growth Hacking concept has evolved via the startup culture, where there’s typically less people and smaller budgets, therefore, creativity and innovation are key to achieving success. Fewer resources and smaller budgets have meant that Growth Hackers must use out-of-the-box thinking to conquer competitive markets in a low cost way. This also throws out the traditional job description as a Growth Hacker is not specifically a marketer but can, in fact, be from any background as long as their ideas, decisions, strategy and metrics are all informed by growth.
The main point to remember here is that it’s time to change your thinking; Growth Marketing is all about using that ingenious mindset to implement and optimise a strategy that will achieve your individual business goals.
